School finance-model reevaluation.

A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to school finance; modifying the required
 2  dates for undertaking and completing a reevaluation of the
 3  cost based school finance model; and providing for an
 4  effective date.

 5 

 6  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 7 

 8         Section 1.  Notwithstanding Wyoming Session Laws,
 9  Chapter 2, Section 1101, the Management Council shall, in
10  accordance with recommendations of the state's cost of
11  education consultant in January 1998 reports to the state,
12  undertake a study to reevaluate the education block grant
13  resource block grant model, as defined by W.S.
14  21-13-101(a)(xiv), to determine if modifications are
15  necessary to ensure it remains cost-based in light of
16  changing conditions and modifications to law. The Council

 1  shall structure the study efforts to be complete in time
 2  for the 2002 legislature to consider legislation in
 3  response to study findings.

 4 

 5         Section 2.  Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000.00)
 6  is appropriated from the general fund to the legislative
 7  service office to fund the study required under section 1
 8  of this act, including but not limited to legislative
 9  committee meetings, staff support and consultants to the
10  legislature. Funds appropriated under this section shall be
11  expended only upon approval by the Management Council.

13         Section 3.  This act is effective July 1, 2001.
