Rabies regulation.

for

 

AN ACT relating to the regulation of rabies; granting rule making and other authority regarding the regulation of rabies to the department of health, the livestock board and the animal damage management board; providing for an appropriation; and providing for an effective date.

 

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

ARTICLE 8

REGULATION OF RABIES

 

Section 1.  W.S. 35-4-801 is created to read:

 

     35-4-801.  Regulation of rabid animals.

 

     (a)  The department of health shall promulgate rules pertaining to rabies including surveillance, public education, vaccination protocol, post-exposure procedures and quarantines after consultation with the livestock board.  Local health departments and law enforcement agencies are authorized to enforce the rules.

 

     (b)  The department of health shall seek the advice of the state veterinarian in cases where rabies is suspected.

 

     (c)  Where rabies is present in the wild animal population, the animal damage management board shall be responsible for the control and management of the exposed wild animal population.

 

Section 2.  There is appropriated $????? ($?????) from the general fund to the animal damage management board to carry out the purposes of this act.

 

Section 3.  This act is effective July 1, 2002.
