Joint Minerals Committee Meeting Summary (July 11-12, 2002)
The Joint Minerals, Business and Economic Development Interim Committee met on July 11 and 12, 2002 in Laramie. The Committee received information concerning the following topics: the relationship between the Board of Professional Engineers and the Board of Geologists; the Wyoming Energy Commission and other Business Council issues; air service in Wyoming; the Wyoming Technology Business Center; and the UW Public Policy Institute. The Committee heard testimony on a draft bill that would apply the Wyoming Business Corporation Act to financial institutions.
The Committee voted to sponsor three bills next session concerning the State Mining Council: the first would make revisions to “clean up” various statutory provisions; the second would reduce the experience credit allowed for a mining engineering degree; and the third would modify the Council’s disciplinary procedures. The Committee voted to sponsor a banking bill that would make revisions to “clean up” existing statutory provisions. The Committee also voted to sponsor a bill that would set an industry factor for trona valuation. The Committee will meet again on October 7 and 8, 2002 at the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in Casper.
