Joint Revenue Committee Meeting Summary (June 27, 2002)

The Joint Revenue Committee met in Casper on June 27, 2002.  The Committee heard testimony on the Powder River Basin Coal decision rendered by the Wyoming Supreme Court.  The Court held that coal lease bonus money was an indirect cost of mining. 

 

The Committee heard testimony on the valuation of natural gas, the price differential between Wyoming gas and national gas markets, and the streamlined sales tax project.  The Committee was provided a general state revenue update and discussed general revenue needs of the state.  The Committee also heard testimony regarding the property tax assessment of telecommunications companies and telecommunications tower companies, and the inventory exemption from property taxation for mobile homes.

 

The Committee agreed to sponsor legislation on the revision of fuel taxation statutes.  The Committee asked for draft legislation clarifying the sales tax exemption for intrastate transportation of employees, freight and property.  The Committee also asked for draft legislation on the cancellation of inactive vendor sales/use tax licenses.  The Committee’s next meeting will be in Cheyenne on August 12 and 13, 2002.
