2003 Laws, Chapter 208, Section 201 established the Task Force to review the statewide assessment system and develop necessary accountability systems in response to NCLB, and to report recommendations to the Legislature.

4.         Small School Study

2003 Laws, Chapter 208, Section 501 continued legislative study of the small school adjustment.  To assist in study efforts, the Small School Study Advisory Group was established.  The cumulative efforts of both the small school study and regional cost study are to address the impact of expiration of the hold harmless provision at the end of SY03-04.

Following conversation at the August 19 meeting of the Management Council, an update of School Facilities Commission review of district five-year facility plans and scheduling of school facility needs to be presented at the 2004 Budget Session.

Completion of work initiated in the 2002 interim for development of a cost-based adjustment within the school finance model for reading and intervention programs and adjustment to model prototypes for the experience and longevity of classified personnel.

2003 school finance legislation provided for the continuation of refinement of at-risk proxies used within the at-risk adjustment and recommendations on summer school intervention and remediation programs.

 

4.         Statewide Student Performance Tracking Data Capability

            Stephen King, State Department

 

2003 Legislation funded efforts to establish a student performance data system supporting the requirements of school district body of evidence systems to determine levels of student performance and to comply with state graduation efforts.  This effort initiated from the data facilitation conducted during the 2002 interim.
