Catch Title: Public transit account-appropriation.
Subject: Provides an appropriation to the Department of Transportation for the public transit program.
Summary/Major Elements:
· Under current law, the Department of Transportation receives federal funds for distribution to local government entities for public transportation programs as provided in W.S. 24-15-102.
· This bill:
· Appropriates $1 million to the Department of Transportation for deposit into a separate account within the public transit account;
· Specifies the funds and any interest earned under the separate account shall be distributed to eligible grantees under the public transit program;
· Requires the Department to adopt rules specifying that the funds under this program may only be used for operational expenses and shall not be used for capital improvements;
· Specifies that not more than $1 million of the funds and interest earned from the separate account may be distributed for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005;
· Specifies the funds and earned interest from the separate account are in addition to public transit funds available for distribution under W.S. 24-15-102.
· Specifies that the appropriation under this act shall be considered one-time funding and shall not be part of the Department's standard budget request for the next biennium.
