Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Requires fingerprinting of applicants for licensure in optometry.

 

·        Requires optometrists to give patients a copy of prescriptions for contact lenses without requiring a request by the patient.

 

·        Allows persons attending optometry school to practice optometry through an externship program.

 

·        Provides for staggered terms and increases pay for members of the board of optometry.

 

·        Requires applicants for licensure in optometry to pass a series of tests administered by a national board.

 

·        Provides for rules and regulations to permit issuance of licenses by endorsement for persons holding optometry licenses from other jurisdictions.
