Subject:  Requires department of health to establish suicide prevention program.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Requires department of health to establish a statewide suicide prevention program, including:

 

o       A statewide written plan;

 

o       Assistance to local communities with suicide prevention coalitions;

 

o       Consultation, technical assistance and training to local agencies, organization and groups;

 

o       Maintenance of a suicide prevention library;

 

o       Collection and dissemination of 'best practices' information on suicide prevention and intervention.

 

·        Appropriates $150,000.00 in one-time general funds and authorizes one full-time position to the department of health to implement the suicide prevention program.

 

Comments:

 

·        Requires a report from Department of Health on implementation to the Joint Labor, Health and Social Services Interim Committee by December 1, 2005, and on program results by December 1, 2006 and December 1, 2007.
