Subject:  Authorizes local governments to impose additional excise taxes for economic development.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Authorizes a county to impose a sales/use excise tax for economic development. 

 

·        Contains extensive provisions for the imposition of the excise tax (must be by election of the county voters).

 

·        The tax may be imposed for 2 years or 4 years; every extension of the tax must be by election of the voters.

 

·        Authorizes a county to use a portion (not to exceed 25%) of the proceeds from the general purpose tax for economic development if approved by the voters.

 

Comments:

 

· Implements Wyoming constitution article 16, section 13 which was passed in the 2004 general election authorizing local governments to impose taxes for economic development.
