Catch Title:       State employees' lodging expenses.

 

Subject:  Amends lodging and meal expense reimbursement rates for state officials and employees traveling on official business for the state.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Under current law, the state auditor sets the meal, lodging and miscellaneous expense reimbursement rates for state officials and employees who travel on official business for the state, based upon the published federal rate in effect on a date certain (currently April 1, 2001).

 

·        This bill:

·        Allows the state auditor to set the reimbursement rates based on the published federal rate in effect on April 1, 2005;

·        Requires the state auditor to submit an annual report to the Joint Appropriations Interim Committee by November 1, reporting the current federal travel rates and a recommendation to maintain, increase or decrease the travel reimbursement rates for state officials and employees while traveling on official state business;

·        Specifies that on the date of return from official business, the per diem reimbursement shall be 75% of the previous day's rate.
