Summary/Major Elements:

·         This bill:

·         Authorizes a methamphetamine initiative planning study;

·         Appropriates $50,000.00 for the study;

·         Requires the Department of Health to:

·         Review the scope of the methamphetamine problem in the state;

·         Examine efforts employed locally and nationally to address the problem;

·         Determine the number of persons in Wyoming being treated, or needing treatment, and the number of existing and potential treatment beds in the state;

·         Examine the existing capacity and the potential need for out-patient treatment and evaluations;

·         Authorizes the Department to contract with an independent entity to conduct the study;

·         Requires reports from the contractor to the Department and from the Department to the Governor's Substance Abuse and Violent Crime Advisory Board, the Joint  Appropriations, Labor and Judiciary Interim Committees with recommendations with respect to new options to address current and projected needs for treatment;

·         Requires the legislative committees to coordinate efforts to review the problems and solutions identified by the Department prior to the 2006 Budget Session.
