Subject: Authorizes administrative subpoenas to investigate sexual exploitation of children by way of the Internet.
Summary/Major Elements:
· This bill:
· Authorizes the Attorney General or his deputy to issue administrative subpoenas to investigate sexual exploitation of child through the Internet;
· Specifies the information that can be produced pursuant to the subpoena, including information to establish the identity of the owner of the computer being used to sexually exploit children over the Internet;
· Exempts Internet service providers from producing information under the subpoena that is unrelated to the investigation for sexual exploitation of children;
· Establishes procedures for issuance, service and challenge to a subpoena and the destruction or return of records obtained pursuant to the subpoena;
· Requires an annual report from the Attorney General with respect to issuance of administrative subpoenas and the results thereof.
