Summary/Major Elements:

 

Under current law, if Wyoming law enforcement officers seek criminal history records from other states, the officer or the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is required to seek that information through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

 

·        This bill:

·        Adopts the National Crime Prevention and Privacy Compact;

·        Authorizes the state law enforcement officers or DCI to request criminal history records from the federal government or directly from states that have adopted the Compact;

·        Requires a Compact Administrator for the state, who, by this bill, is designated to be the Attorney General or his designee, to serve on the Compact Council;

·        Provides procedures for operation of the Compact Council and procedures for requesting records from states that are parties to the Compact.
