Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Current law provides free tuition and fees for "war orphans," defined as children of persons killed in active military service with the United States during a period of war.  This act expands eligibility by:

 

o       Adding surviving spouses;

 

o       Adding surviving children and spouses of those killed in active state service;

 

o       Removing the requirement that the service member's death occurred during a period of war.
