Subject:  Amends applicability of Child Safety Restraint Act.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Amends definition of "passenger vehicle" to exclude emergency and law enforcement vehicles, and school buses and public transportation vehicles if originally manufactured without safety belts.

 

·        Removes weight limitation on child safety restraint requirement and applies requirement to any child who has not yet reached his ninth birthday.

 

·        Allows child in front seat if all rear seat positions are occupied by children.

 

·        Adds exception to child restraint requirement if vehicle safety belts properly fit the child and do not pose a danger to the child.
