Catch Title:       Medical trauma care.

 

Subject:  Creates a temporary program to reimburse acute care hospitals for uncompensated trauma care.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Appropriates $2,500,000.00 in general funds and authorizes one position to the department of health to reimburse acute care hospitals for unreimbursed costs of specified trauma care services.

 

·        Provides that specified trauma care costs incurred from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006, and that remain unpaid 180 days after billing, are eligible for reimbursement.

 

·        Directs the department to promulgate rules and regulations for administration of the program, and authorizes the department to contract with a fiscal agent to process payments and conduct audits.

 

·        Limits payment for any one hospital to 25% of the appropriation unless it appears as of May 31, 2006, that the funds will not be totally expended.

 

Comments:

 

·  Report on the program is required by December 1, 2005, from the department of health to the joint appropriations and joint labor, health and social services interim committees.
