Catch Title: Law enforcement retirement-corrections officers.
Subject: Authorizes specified employees of the Department of Corrections to participate in the law enforcement retirement system.
Summary/Major Elements:
· A Law Enforcement Retirement System was created in 2002, which was in many respects similar to, but separate from, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Game and Fish Warden and Criminal Investigation Retirement System. The new system included individuals who were certified peace officers, but did not include all POST-certified career officers.
· This bill:
· Adds probation and parole officers who are employed by the Department of Corrections to the definition of "law enforcement officer", thereby making those individuals eligible for participation in the Law Enforcement Retirement System;
· Specifies coverage of probation and parole officers under the Law Enforcement Retirement System will not be implemented until the Wyoming Retirement Board receives funds for deposit into the account, as necessary to maintain the actuarial integrity of the system and funding all liability arising from this bill for prior years of service of the new members;
· Requires receipt of funds equal to contributions for at least 2 months of covered service following date of entry of coverage for the new members;
· Appropriates $2,496,321.00 to fund the liabilities arising under this bill for coverage of probation and parole officers employed by the Department of Corrections.
