Subject: Extends application deadline for medical malpractice insurance assistance account loans.

Summary/Major Elements:

· The program authorizing the Department of Health to provide loans to physicians for medical malpractice insurance premiums assistance, created during the 2004 Special Session, contained an application deadline of January 15, 2005.

· This bill extends the application deadline for such loans to March 30, 2007 and provides that the loan application period begins April 1, 2006.

· The bill appropriates funds to the Department of Health for loans to physicians for qualified medical malpractice insurance premiums, loans for risk retention group participation and for administrative costs in implementing the loan program.
