Catch Title: Protection orders.

Subject: Increases the duration of protection orders.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Under current law, protection orders issued in stalking or domestic violence cases are effective for fixed periods of 3 months, subject to continued extensions for additional 3 month periods, for good cause.

· This bill extends the duration of the protection orders for periods not to exceed one year, subject to extensions for additional one year periods, upon a showing of good cause.

· The bill authorizes either party in the action to move to modify, terminate or extend the protection order.
