Summary/Major Elements:

· Under current law, the Department of Family Services (DFS) is limited in its authority to contract for residential services for juveniles in the custody of DFS because it may only contract with not-for-profit boards of directors for those services.

· This bill would remove the limitation and would allow DFS to contract with for-profit entities to provide residential services for juveniles in DFS custody.
