Subject: Department of education certification of drivers' education courses.

Summary/Major Elements: This act:

· Directs the department of education, in consultation with the department of transportation, to adopt standards and procedures for the certification of drivers' education courses;

· Applies to public and private schools, community colleges, boards of cooperative education services, community education programs and drivers' education schools;

· Authorizes the department to employ a state coordinator of driver education programs;

· Provides that only certified drivers' education programs may issue certificates of completion to enable 16½-year olds to obtain unrestricted drivers licenses.
