Subject:  Study of medical specialty centers   

 

Summary/Major Elements:  This act:

 

·      Directs the Wyoming Health Care Commission to conduct a study of medical specialty centers and new general hospitals, including:

 

o       The possible effects on the state's health care system, trauma care system, Wyoming community health care facilities and consumers;

 

o       The feasibility of modifying the licensure process for medical specialty centers and new general hospitals;

 

o       Regulations that may be appropriate to focus competition between medical specialty centers or new general hospitals and existing community hospitals on cost and quality of services;

 

o       The provision of hospital specialty services to the state's insured and underinsured populations;

 

o        Creating efficiencies and opportunities to enhance the quality, delivery and allocation of health care resources; and

 

o        Issues related to the above which the commission identifies.

 

·        Appropriates $175,000 in general funds to the Health Care Commission for the study.
