Catch Title:       Child health insurance program amendments-2.

 

Subject:   Expands eligibility for the Child Health Insurance Program

 

Summary/Major Elements: 

 

·        Existing law creates a Child Health Insurance Program for children whose family income is below 200% of the federal poverty level.  This act:

 

o       Makes working parents of enrolled children eligible for the Child Health Insurance Program, subject to certain requirements and a sliding scale participation fee;

 

o       Limits participation under the program to 3,720 persons during the 2007-2008 biennium;

 

o       Provides for employer contribution toward the participation fee. 

 

·  Appropriates to the department of health $2,258,947 in federal funds and $1,131,946 in general funds for case service expenditures under the act.

 

·  Appropriates $335,000 in federal funds and $165,000 in general funds to administer the expanded program.

 

·        Authorizes 3 full time positions to the department of health for purposes of the expanded program.
