Catch Title: Criminal background checks.

Subject: Criminal history background checks for firefighters and homeland security workers.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Previous legislation authorized criminal history background checks for firefighters. While national database checks were authorized, because the information could be made available to non-public entities the FBI would not allow access to federal databases for those checks.

· This bill addresses that issue and allows fire districts and fire departments to conduct state and national criminal background checks on prospective employees and receive that information.

· The bill also addresses homeland security employees and provides for criminal history background checks for those employees.
