Summary/Major Elements:

· Under current law, school districts are required to account for major maintenance funds received from the state separate from other district funds and to restrict expenditures of these funds for major building and facility repair and replacement needs as defined by law and in accordance with the district's facility plan approved by the school facilities commission;

· Each district is required to annually report major maintenance expenditures to the school facilities commission;

· Under this bill, the school facilities commission is directed to offset any future major maintenance payments to a school district by any unauthorized expenditure of its major maintenance funds.
