Catch Title:       Senior services board-2.

Subject:  Changes to the membership of the senior services board and grants awarded by that board.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Increases the senior services board by an additional at large member and makes one existing member a non-voting, ex-officio member (administrator of the division on aging in the department of health).

· Changes the formulas for grants to senior centers:

o Gifts and donations are continuously appropriated for grants for any of the public purposes specified;

o The basic grant formula, providing funds to all eligible senior centers, is increased from $20,000 to an amount up to $30,000;

o Distribution of the remaining funds is changed from 75% pursuant to a grant formula and 25% for innovative grant proposals to 95% grant formula and remainder for emergency grants;

o Emergency grants are limited to $20,000 for any single occurrence and may be made only if the center has no other available funds.

· Grant formula will now be set by rule of the board rather than the division on aging.

· Up to one percent of funds available for distribution may be used for administrative expenses of the board.
