Summary/Major Elements:

 

·         The act eliminates the provisions that a write in candidates require three percent of the votes cast to be placed on the ballot for the general election.

 

·         The act permits the secretary of state to promulgate rules for obtaining and using substitute ballots if the county clerk is unable to obtain ballots on time.

 

·         The act amends the provisions for placement of words and use of colors on ballots to better allow for electronic ballots.

 

·         The act sets out how independent candidates shall appear on ballots.

 

·         The act allows for more than one election judge under the age of eighteen at each precinct.

 

·         The act requires the secretary of state to provide procedures for transmittal of tabulations of vote counts and county canvasses.
