Summary/Major Elements:

· Current law allows cities, towns and counties to "opt into" the state retirement plan for law enforcement officers.

· The current law was effective July 1, 2002, but had no "cut-off" date for cities, towns or counties to exercise the option.  This act provides that the option must be exercised by June 30, 2008.

Comments:

· Contains delayed repeal date – after June 30, 2008, the option will no longer be available.
