Subject:  Creates the crime of harboring a sex offender who is suspected of violating the law and creates and amends penalties.

Summary/Major Elements:

· This bill:

· Creates the crime of harboring, assisting, concealing or withholding information about a sex offender who has not registered as an offender as required by law or who is sought for questioning regarding other laws prohibiting a sexual offense, child abuse or kidnapping;

· Provides a penalty punishable by imprisonment for not more than 6 months, a fine of not more than $750.00, or both for the person who harbors, assists, conceals or withholds information about the sex offender who is in violation of the specified laws;

· Increases the penalties for a sex offender who fails to register as required under W.S. 7-19-307 to include imprisonment for not more than 5 years, a fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both for a first offense; or imprisonment for not more than 10 years, a fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both for a subsequent offense.
