Summary/Major Elements:

• Expands the board of agriculture from 9 to 13 members by adding 4 youth leadership members as permanent members.  

• Requires the youth members to be from 4 different quadrants of the state, to be engaged chiefly in agricultural work and to be between 18 and 30 years of age.

• Extends the terms of board members from 4 to 6 years.

• Increases the compensation of board members from $10.00 per day to $100.00 per day.

• Clarifies that only the 7 appointed, non-ex officio, adult members of the Board of Agriculture are members of the State Fair advisory board.

• Contains an appropriation of $25,000 from the general fund to the department of agriculture for additional costs of this act.
