Catch Title:       Emergency medical technicians-retirement study.

 

Subject:  Authorization of retirement study for EMTs.

 

Summary/Major Elements:  This act:

 

·                Appropriates $50,000 from the general fund to the Wyoming Retirement Board to contract with a certified actuary to study and develop recommendations for a retirement system for emergency medical technicians;

 

·                Provides requirements for the study, including:

 

o       Determination of costs of a retirement program covering full-time, part-time and volunteer EMTs, and identification of possible funding sources;

 

o       Comparison of pros and cons of a defined benefit or a defined contribution plan, and necessary or recommended differences with the volunteer firemen's pension fund;

 

o       Recommendation of a new retirement plan or addition to an existing plan.

 

Comments:

· Report required from the Wyoming Retirement Board to the Joint Labor, Health and Social Services Interim Committee by November 1, 2007;

· Report required from Department of Health to the Joint Labor, Health and Social Services Interim Committee by November 1, 2007 regarding recommendations for recruitment/retention incentives for EMTs and the availability of training grants for EMTs.
