Catch Title:       Mandatory savings accounts for inmates.

Subject:  Requires savings accounts for inmates in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Summary/Major Elements:

· This bill:

o Requires that 10% of any payment for services performed by an inmate under the custody of the Department of Corrections shall be deposited into a personal savings account for the inmate, until that savings account has a balance of $1,000.00, after which the 10% shall be distributed to the inmate as otherwise provided in W.S. 7-16-205(a);

o Provides that the funds in the inmate's savings account shall be paid to the inmate upon parole or final discharge from his sentence;

o Exempts from the mandatory savings account provision, those inmates serving a sentence of death or life without the possibility of parole.
