Subject:  Provides procedure for hiring of currently certified peace officers, detention officers and dispatchers.

Summary/Major Elements:

• Current law requires that an applicant for a position as a peace officer, detention officer or dispatcher be certified by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission and subjected to a criminal background investigation.

• Certification and background investigation are required even if the applicant has already been certified and investigated and is currently employed in good standing by another law enforcement unit.

• This act authorizes a law enforcement unit to hire a peace officer, detention officer or dispatcher without additional background investigation upon confirmation of the applicant's P.O.S.T. certification and verification of current employment with another law enforcement unit in Wyoming.
