Summary/Major Elements:

· Establishes a program for one year for supplemental financial assistance for student enrichment instruction provided during the summer or on days other than regular school days and complying with requirements and criteria established by rule and regulation of the department of education.

· Requires school districts seeking the supplemental assistance to apply to the department of education and include in the application a description of the program content, research-based strategies, documentation of national sources used and a plan for evaluating student process.

· The bill provides criteria for the department of education to evaluate applications including research-based instructional opportunities for students who meet or exceed state standards, linkage to academic standards and opportunities and activities that are different from programs offered during the regular school year.

· Appropriates $450,000 for the program.
