Subject:  Amends definitions of "peace officer" to include a court security officer employed by the Wyoming Supreme Court.

 

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Under current law, a security officer employed by the Wyoming Supreme Court does not have the authority and protections a peace officer has, even if otherwise qualified as a peace officer.

 

·        This bill:

 

o       Includes in the definitions of "peace officer" found in Titles 6 and 7 of the Wyoming Statutes, any duly authorized court security officer who is employed by the Wyoming Supreme Court and who meets the Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements;

 

o       Limits the peace officer authority of those court security officers to instances of enforcing Wyoming law or Supreme Court rules on the premises where the Court is conducting business; when engaged in fresh pursuit of specified persons; and, when responding to a request to assist other peace officers acting within the scope of their official duties.
