Catch Title:              Authorization for certain radioactive waste facilities.

Subject:                     High-level radioactive waste storage facilities.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Existing law provides that no high-level radioactive waste storage facility may be sited within the state unless approved by the legislature as specified.

· This bill provides pre-authorization for temporary high-level radioactive waste storage facilities in Wyoming if they are operated on the site of, and to store the waste produced by, a nuclear power generation facility operating within the state.

· The bill specifies requirements for authorization of a facility by the department of environmental quality including meeting necessary safety considerations.

· The bill specifies that the facility would still need to comply with the requirements of the existing law, including the reporting and public review requirements, and that the benefits agreement shall be the agreement as negotiated with the applicant under W.S. 35‑11‑1503(d).
